Thank you Kristof,

do you know a more "Do it yourself" way to do that ?
Because this kind of plugin involve to have Studio version and not work with free version.

Do you have a "Do it yourself" way to do that in After Effects?

Yes, you take a pen tool and draw lines frame by frame :)

More seriously, as fusion is more "granular" and more 3D oriented, i thought i could combine basic shapes connected to a displace 3d and finally linked to a replicate 3D but i don't know If i can shade and render a specific shape as the wireframe mode.

Thank you

If you want Plexus then you should buy Plexus and lease AE for a few months. This is the cheapest route as you probably have spent enough hours trying to figure out how to do it for free than if you just purchased the software and did it the way you know works. If you need to do it in Fusion then buy the Studio and save yourself the hassle.

Honestly.. If this seems to expensive then you are not charging enough for your work... Which is a problem in itself because that hurts all of us.

I see people doing the things the hard way to often. Make it easy on yourself.

I will step off of my soap box now as I am far from innocent in regards to my own rant.

Hi travis,

Thank you for your reply, i'm agree with you, i'm not asking this to save money (i already have both ae and plexus), but in order to discover deep aspects of fusion, i really want to be a high level user of fusion, and i try to understand how to get complexe results with Elementary tools.

Not all of us are charging for our work. Some of us are creating original content from scratch for ourselves and not for a client. :D

Having said that, I think Krokodove is a good option, even though it does require the full version of Fusion (which at $1k is a bit steep for many, but maybe Blackmagic will do what they did with Resolve for the Mac and drop the price to $500 which IMHO would make it a really compelling purchase).

Personally, I find Fusion to not quite be able to replace AfterEffects for my specific needs. I purchased CS6 way back when and that's what I'm running since I don't like the Adobe monthly subscription. It's very difficult to justify giving up all of the specialized AE plugins that I purchased through the years for the sake of jumping into Fusion exclusively. My advice to the OP is -- Fusion isn't a substitute for AE, it's an alternate VFX app which might be able to handle some things better, and some things worse than AE. Trying to emulate Plexus on Fusion is probably not the most efficient use of your time. Different tools for different tasks is what my personal attitude is. If you already have Plexus and AE, then you're all set for that particular (and IMHO overused) effect. Rather focus on learning to do things in Fusion that would be very difficult or impossible in AE.

I agree that you should always use the right tool for the right job. If AE does what you need exactly as you want then that should be the tool of choice.

If you aren't getting paid for your work in Fusion then I am assuming it is your hobby. That is cool but developing Fusion is not the hobby of the programmers, researchers, marketing, and admin that are involved with the product. These folks need to be paid in order to put a roof over their head and provide for their family.

Blackmagic already gives away a robust version of Fusion for free. Dropping the cost of Fusion Studio would likely mean BMD would need to cut the number of people working on the product which would likely mean little development beyond what the product is now. Which would be a shame.

Lets not forget the OP is asking how to achieve a certain type effect in fusion....not life advice.

Telling someone to buy the full version because they aren't charging enough for their work and that is hurting you professionally sounds a little OT....not to mention entirely assumed.

Hi,

in order to move forward i've made a test (see attached comp) with a combination of shapes 3D, replicate 3D and displaced 3D.

If i display the merge 3D in wireframe mode i can get a similar effect but i don't know how i can render and shade the wire of a specific shape.

Someone has an idea ?

thank you

Hi,
i also try Fusion in the free version to see if i can leave AE sometines.

i don't know if i understand correctly your problem but.
You have to be in "Open Gl render" not in "software render"
