Keeping an previous vers of an app around while testing out a new vers is pretty standard practice. ITs something I've done for 20+ years. Many folks have multiple vers of AE installed because of various reasons, usually around performance. So on one level yes I get it that you install bits of the app into system folders and use a single common name across different vers of the app. That makes the coding job a little easier, but its not so user friendly when you want to keep the prev ver around until you feel the new vers is solid.
FWIW I uninstalled both vers, reinstalled R15b2 and things seem good.
may I suggest, if, when, and until its ok to have different vers of resolve installed, that this bit of info is in the release notes and install info. I've had multiple vers of R installed at times since V7 and never knew this. thnx

If you have separate databases these don’t need to change when installing the new version, just don’t select to upgrade the DB.
