Marketer Misrepresenting Resolve

PostThu May 24, 2018 3:43 pm

Hey Folks,

I hope Perter Chamberlain will see this and take action.

The following link is to a page where someone claims major features were edited on Resolve when in fact they were not. Finished on Resolve perhaps.

" finished" in resolve does not mean edited. Just coloured.

I can claim that most of the non English versions of avatar where finished in quantel Pablo: we did most of the in picture subtitles, but it will be misleading.

Move on. Snake oil seller.

Yes, that was part of my point. Finished of course can also include inserting vfx etc, but not the same as editing.

I want Blackmagic or someone to get an injunction to stop this guy or make him clean up his business practices.

I think for this guy's target audience, "edited" equates to "everything that's done after video is shot." He's comparing Resolve to consumer products like Windows Movie Maker; the people who'd take his course are most likely total beginners who don't know the difference between a codec and CUDA.

The difference between "edited" and "finished" is too subtle for this audience; I don't think Blackmagic has any reason to tell him to stop, and besides he's not speaking for BMD he's speaking for himself. People misrepresent other companies' products every day.

Hopefully you folks are not comfortable with people being mislead.

I suppose I should notify the FTC and the appropriate folks in whatever state his company is registered.

On a side note, I find it disturbing that many, if not most humans are OK with the rampant incorrectness in the creative industry. Such as 4K TV (it's UHD) and Full HD (no such standard, it was made up by TV sellers).

You folks have some fun,
Robert

Robert, I think you are overreacting, it's product and service puffery, not worth getting upset over.
And besides, he praises Resolve why would Blackmagic worry over that.

Ha, ha. He merely offers that you may become a "Hollywood" quality video producer which is different from Hollywood quality video producer. Great price! Slashed from $97 to $7. And if you act now your second Resolve is FREE!

Way too many hucksters and loonies out there. I particularly wince at the people claiming to be able to provide the knowledge to become a "Hollywood colorist," when a) they've never worked in Hollywood (or NY or London or any major film center) and b) they have zero credits. Much too much snake oil out there.

there are also plenty of wackos that present themself as "expert" and make YouTube videos on how to become super duper colorist/ editor/ vfx guru...

I think it is a waste of time...
