I Assume you have the master timeline at 16/9 and occasionally you need the 2.35/1 hard crop to it.
there are few ways to do it, and it depend how hard you need the workflow to be but smoother playbachj or simple but a bir more annoying to play with.
simple solution is to have a white over black matte/image frame repeated that you put on the top layer and it will black the 2.35 AR as will. simple to put, it will probably require some extra cache. (I)
or, generate the same frame, put it in the group node or in the single clip node and as a mixer layer you can have it. it might require cache (recommended) (II)
keyframeing the output blanking. doable but not recommended: if one frame change in the sequence, the whole sync goes out of the window. not my preferred mode. no cache required. (III)
in Homecoming (amazon release in november) we have 1.78, 2.35 and 1:1 AR through the episodes and we used method (II).
