You can no longer copy and paste from a timeline in one project to another. I get the error about framerates etc. not being the same - even though they are. This is a pretty big issue, unless you're constantly doing projects that have nothing to do with each other.
This goes along with:
- Blur dissolve, after three versions, still doesn't work right
- Transparency - it got better, then it got worse - first there was all kinds of artifacting, then there just wasn't any transparency unless you re-sized or cropped and now?
- Left fill/Right fill. Fundamental need per clip. I don't want to build a million audio tracks - I'd like to have one for dialog, one for music and one for SFX. That's a pretty typical setup for most (I'd wager 90%+ of editors)
- Waveforms occasionally disappearing.
- Audio played in reverse no longer uses the correct part of the clip.
- A whole ton of other bugs, as a casual glance in the this forum will attest to.
These are simple, fundamental things that have either been ignored over several versions or broken. I made a prediction on this forum that with the inclusion of Fairlight, the BMD team bit off more than they could chew - given the current rash of bugs, crashes and half-assed fixes I see that indeed appears to be the case.
My professional advice to the BMD team - I appreciate what you're trying to do, but it really doesn't matter how many bells and whistles a tool has, if it doesn't work, or if it prevents you from completing your job efficiently (or at all), it won't get used. Version 16 should have only basic new functionality (left/right fill in my case, I'm sure there are few simple things others might need that are basic to the task at hand) and fix all the bugs and flat out broken things in the software. I really don't think any serious editor will bemoan the loss of Fairlight - it's simply not necessary for what editors do, and is a project unto itself. I know there's a guy here who's trying to use Resolve as a DAW - that's like using a hammer to drill a hole. The wrong tool for the job. Release Fairlight as a stand-alone DAW that integrates with Resolve (like Fusion); but this all-in-one stuff causes too many problems. I can't tell you how many times I've had to manually edit my registry because the Fairlight installer was broken for several releases. Just dump it and focus on what we need. Please. The Fusion integration is nice, but I haven't used it yet, so I can't comment on it.
I'm responsible for Comcast switching to Resolve, Roland Martin's new production facility and my own plant. I'm starting to look a bit foolish for that suggestion unless you guys can get your ducks in a row.
Thanks.
