Thought it was just a power-saving feature, but now the screen will not come back on. I will power it up, hear the fan, and the screen still stays dead. I can even hit the play button & hear audio from the short clip that was recorded, but the screen still stays dead. Did I wait 5 months to get a lemon? Any troubleshooting ideas?
Unfortunately, it does seem like your LCD has failed. I'd be curious to know, when you contacted your dealer or BMD customer service for your region
directly, what did they suggest concerning repair or replacement of your camera?
As for troubleshooting the camera yourself (and please do contact your dealer or BMD directly ASAP), there isn't much you can try. Here are some long-shot suggestions if you haven't already tried them:
- Power-up the camera when there's no SSD inside it, in case a defective SSD is somehow causing a problem.
- Connect the BMCC charger and allow the camera to charge for an hour or two (with the camera turned off). Then try powering on the camera.
- Try reinstalling the camera firmware, either v1.2 or v1.3 (available from BMD's "Support" web site.)
- Even though the fan appears to be working OK, turn off the camera, and remove & then reinstall the fan as described on page 52 in the user manual. (It's fairly easy to do.) Observe carefully that none of the wires inside look pinched or broken, but don't poke around inside your camera. Just look for anything that looks obviously wrong you might tell the BMD repair techs about. After reinstalling the fan, try powering-on the camera again.
I doubt any of the above will make a difference, but it might be worth a try even just to see if makes any difference at all.
Most important, contact your dealer or BMD customer service for your region directly, and let us know what happens.
