16.2 broke my dongle working with DR

Please update us on the matter when you hear back from B&H or any of those authorised resellers that sold you these dongles. I'm interested in what might have happened.

BMD wasted my time with an unsolicited off list email followed by yet another lecture on their absurd requirement that I should have kept the dongle packaging.

On all the many BMD products I have purchased, B&H lists the serial numbers on their invoice EXCEPT the dongles. The dongles themselves ARE serial numbers.

The price of the dongles is quite reasonable, their position in this matter is not.

I'm totally done. Fool me once, shame on you...

I will say that BMD really does need to make it more explicit and obvious on the dongle packaging just how important it is to record the dongle serial number in a safe place. When I purchased a new R14 dongle, the serial number was just a tiny little sticker on the back of the box, which could be mistaken as a simple stocking code. This was also the case when I bought my original R7 dongle.

It’s unfortunate that BMD is making it difficult for people who no longer have their packaging, because they never made it clear to the people who originally bought just how important it was to not discard the packaging.

Now I will ask you to update us on something please. Please explain to us why our Dongles work fine in 16.1.2 but not in 16.2?? DR position on the forum has been that if your dongle works in 16.1.2 then it should work in 16.2, however this is clearly not the case.Erik

I believe that every time there's a new release BMD takes the opportunity to disable more of the known counterfeit dongles that are on the market. It's probably that yours wasn't on the list of denied dongles until this latest release.

i'm with Bruce and Glenn, i have both dongles and licences, each has a place

worth haveing a dongle in drawer in case:
1) your machine cannot call home to BMD's servers to validate for any reason
2) you need to work within a cleint's NDA that demands no machines on the internet

i take a piccie of the code on the box and store that with licence keys on my server that i can log onto from anything anywhere

Same problem here, purchased and been using DR since 12.5.

16.1.2 worked fine.

Updated a couple of days ago to 16.2 and now see the watermark on my projects. The only thing that changed is the upgrade.

Dead right Charles. If the dongle itself had stopped working DR wouldn't run because it would fail the license check.

OP just download the studio version and the problem should disappear.

I too believe BM deserves my money. They really are doing magic over there. Their relatively inexpensive cameras produce such wonderful imagery. I love grading BM raw.

Just want to confirm that there was another round of counterfeit dongles bounced out between R16.2.7 and R17? Both my dongles work on PC and non-M1 Macs up until 16.2.7, so before I toss them, or ship them back to BM to check them, just want to make sure that's true. I bought one dongle from B&H, but alas, I also do not have the packaging, or receipt. It was so long ago for R10. The other one I bought on ebay. It looked legit, but it's totally possible it's counterfeit.

However, B&H says it's not shipping yet, and they won't send you the activation first, and mail the speed editor later. Bummer. Such a cool deal, but you have to wait.

Absolutely I'll mail them, but I can't yet. I need to find an authorized retailer with an activation key in stock. I tried the first five on the authorized reseller list, all out of stock. I tried with and without the Speed Editor.

There is also a link at the bottom showing how to buy an activation overseas, but since I'm already mailing back what I thought were legitimate dongles, I'm a little nervous to buy from the site. Is it save to buy it from the overseas vendor in the video?

I guess the video was out of date. You can’t buy an activation key from Toolfarm either.

How are you guys buying activation keys? Which vendor?

Also, does anyone have a bot that can continuously ping a site until something is in stock and available?

One of the reasons I have to go to ebay is scalpers with bots buying everything and selling for a higher price.

Creative Tools in Germany apparently sells the bundle and emails the license key.
But they are under stocked and at least a month behind on receiving the keys from BM

Just to add fuel to the fire - I have just received a dongle from an authorized online reseller. Australia. Works in 15, not 16.2 or 17. Still have the box with the sticker/barcode/ref numbers. Will contact BMD next week when they're open.
