Urgent help needed please

PostThu Mar 18, 2021 10:36 am

Dear Group Members,

I NEED YOUR URGENT HELP.

I installed DaVinci 17 a month ago as I needed to process a huge amount of video evidence for the court hearing in a child abduction/abuse case regarding my 2.5 y/o Son who was abducted 2 years ago.

Everything worked fine with the installation and I went through a steep learning curve, investing enormous amount of work into editing the videos.

A couple of days ago - after some automatic W10 and graphic card driver updates - my DaVinci Resolve 17 crashed.

Now it takes ages for it to open. Once it does and I click on any of the projects, it starts loading it and then it just keeps crashing. I started to investigate the issue but nothing (incl. doing a system restore to a previous point) helped.

Unfortunately I am unable to pay for the Studio version to get a professional support so I would like to ask anyone with a goodwill to help me to fix this issue.

I would like to thank you all who decide to help me - and my little Son - in advance.

Please see the FAQs above for detail you can report and how to generate a diagnostic log and NFO and post it here, or a link to it here.

Specify the exact hardware and GPU driver installed too please.

Hi Peter,

thank you for your kind reply.
I already prepared the requested files a couple of days ago so here is the link for them: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

Since that time I somehow managed to actually open DVR17.

I found out that if I leave the Project Window untouched for a couple of minutes then the project will open, even though it is impossible to make any useful work as the program is just extremely slow and the playback is uselessly choppy - about 1-2 FPS.

I tried everything I could read on this forum but nothing managed to solve the problem.

At least I managed to export one of the projects into a usable *.mov file.

I know that my setup is not ideal but the thing is that everything worked perfectly fine for a month. Now I decided to make some upgrade to my system, e.g.

- replacing my old graphic card (AMD Radeon R7 200 1 GB) to GeForce GTX 1650S 4GB (which should be more than enough for me at this time as I work in 1080 and the videos are going to be used as evidence so no special effects are needed)
- doubling my (triple channel, e.g. 6x2GB) 12 GB RAM to (triple channel, e.g. 6x4GB) 24 GB RAM,
- adding a dedicated 256 GB SSD as a drive solely allocated for DaVinci
- adding a second monitor (4K) - which obviously shouldn't affect the performance

However, now, after reading so many posts where people are saying that nothing changed even after a dramatic upgrade, I am a bit worried.

I KNOW there must be a solution as everything worked perfectly fine before.

I tried to uninstall/reinstall DVR17 several times, uninstall/reinstall/rollback different graphics drivers, go back to W10 restore point but all I managed to somehow achieve was that now I am able to get past the Project window, open an actual project, export it, but it is practically impossible to do any useful work due to the extreme choppiness and generally slow response.

I kindly ask you to pay attention to this case as the outcome will affect my Son's life.

Thank you - and everyone - who decided to help.

Ok, with a gtx1650 GPU, go to the NVIDIA support sit and look for the specific GPU driver for that card.

OK, Peter.

So what did you need those files for then?
I thought you would be able to help me how to fix the issue with the existing setup.

Did you actually manage to go through those files???????

As posts were on the weekend we need to see when engineers can review.

From what I can see you still have the R7 GPU which is very under powered. If thats what you are still using, go back to v17.0 from the support web site and see if that works. Report here with new log and NFO if not.

If you are planning to go to the GTX1050s, you will need a Nvidia GPU driver installed.

No, Peter. Even though that was true that my GPU WAS underpowered, it still worked perfectly for a couple of weeks, so the issue is somewhere else.

In the meantime I upgraded my GPU to Geforce GTX 1650 and also added some RAM (so now it is 18 GB) and another SSD.

TBH, I am utterly disappointed with the help I am getting from this forum.

Even though you wanted me to send you the system info files - which I did - you are still shoooting in the dark.

It is also quite disappointing for me that even though I described my situation - e.g. that I need to work on the video evidence for the court case of a child abduction (MY LITTLE CHILD), it seems nobody cared.

That's fine.
