This is my first forum post so hopefully I'm doing this right haha
It hasn't always been like this, so I'm not sure what changed, but since the later versions of DR 16, the load times have been REALLY slow! In 16-17b1 the startup logo screen would take over a minute just to get to the database screen. Luckily in 17b2 it's down to 15-20 sec which is perfectly fine by me. (I'm on a Windows 10 PC running the Studio versions of DR btw).
Now for the real issue where things get really slow (which unfortunately was not fixed for me in 17b2 like I hoped it would be). When opening a project (and I've tried with multiple projects) the time that it takes for the media to load and thumbnails to show has been averaging about 4-5 minutes, every time. Then add another minute onto that for the timeline to actually be playable. Here are some time measurements I did earlier today:
Project 1:
-Contains 66 .mp4 clips from DJI Mini 2 (so nothing too bitrate heavy)
-Audio loaded immediately
-Took 5 min to load video clip thumbnails in media bin and timeline, +1 min more for timeline to be playable
After fresh restart of PC:
- 4:25 for clip thumbnails, +1 min to be playable
Switching to another project from the project menu loaded almost immediately (sometimes maybe 30 sec or so)
Closed Resolve and reopened to try project with .braw files to see if it made any difference:
-Contains 143 braw clips
-Loaded in 4 min, playable 10-15sec later.
So in the end, I still haven't figured out why it's so slow to load. The fact that I can switch to another project and the media take almost no time to load leads me to think that upon fresh opening of Resolve, it could be loading the media for ALL the projects in my database, which would make absolutely no sense, so I don't think it's that.
So if anyone has a solution to this or is experiencing the same thing, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Really hoping to find a solution because I really like using Resolve and I don't want to have to drop it based on this.
Thanks
My PC Specs:
-Ryzen 7 3700x 8-core processor
-32gb RAM
-MSI Radeon RX 3700XT 8gb GPU (Updated to latest drivers)
-512gb m.2 SSD (DR installed on this)
-2TB & 3TB Internal SATA HDDs (Media files are on these)
