Immediate crash when clicking on Timeline

PostWed May 26, 2021 3:11 pm

All my drivers are up-to-date (Latest NVidia Sutdio installed). Newest version of Resolve Studio.

From opening old projects to creating brand new ones, when creating a new timeline or right-clicking on an existing one (to duplicate or change the attributes) or switching from a timeline to another, all these actions lead to Resolve closing.

No error message, nothing. It freezes (showing a "not responding") then 5 seconds later, it closes.

Uninstalled completely with a clean install. Doesn't fix the issue.

Right now I just can't work anymore. I have to find a way to fix this. I have projets to deliver and this stupid bug is causing me lots of anxiety right now.

Anyone here that can help?

Thanks a lot !!

I´m facing a similar problem. Just installed the last version (17.2.1.) and the problem persists. I open the project, seems to be ok, but after 2 minutes it stops to play anything. No matter from which media source. But DaVinci Resolve doesn´t close/collapse... it just not reacts anymore. Then I open the Project Manager > open another project > close it and go back to the first one, it starts to work ok again. For about two minutes... and then it freezes again.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open Windows System Information and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

I have had the same problem with 17.2 and 17.2.1 since I upgraded. I'm a few hours from delivering a project for a customer (I know I should have waited to upgrade but got sucked in by the "faster load" promise). Now I can't keep the software open sometimes at all. Project won't load and immediately crashes after selecting it, clicking on a timeline crashes, changing timeline almost always crashes but it sometimes works.

I send in a support ticket, provided extra info as requested, have gotten no response in 3 days, been hung up on twice by their phone system right when I was the "next caller". This is an absolute nightmare. I'm a few hours from finishing this project and I can't deliver to the customer because I can't keep my "pro level" software from crashing every couple of seconds. I can't even roll back to 17.1 because the projects won't open and immediately crash there. So I and my customers are literally at Blackmagic's mercy and I can't even get assistance from them on the matter. SUPER frustrating....

Hi all!

This was fixed? I have experiencing the same problem. I can not change my current timeline, or creating a new one. I have the Studio version of the program, and I have sent a message to support, but they told me they didn't receive my email back when I sent to them all the logs and data from my system, and after that I haven't receive any more response despite I have sent all the data again a couple of times.

This is super frustrating, I haven't been able to work any more in this project for like 2 weeks and I have to deliver this project right now.

Can someone help me??

Hi. I post this in case some future soul lands here looking for a similar problem. You are not alone, my friend.

I finally was able to find the solution and fix this problem. It was caused by one sound plugin I had in one of the buses of one of the timelines. I could play the whole timeline, and open it, and everything worked fine, but when I tried to include that timeline inside another timeline, sometimes I was able to open it, but after that the program started to crash every time I tried to switch to another timeline. It was very strange because the playback was never broken, and even that timeline worked just fine. The problem only appeared when that timeline was included inside another timeline.
Very strange behaviour. I spent almost 2 weeks making tests, and nothing could fix this until I found what was the problem. I uninstalled Davinci Resolve and deleted all the files I had in my computer as support suggested me, but that didn't fix the problem. The only thing that worked was to remove the VST plugin, and then everything worked like a charm.

I think the dev team definitely should check this case to find out why Davinci was not able to handle this error or throw some useful information in the logs (I checked them all and nothing regarding that VST plugin was there).

Hey, I exactly had the same issue. In the last project I had been working on, everytime I clicked a timeline, Davinci would crash. I upgraded windows 11 and Davinci and the problem persisted. Then I found this video in YT, I followed the steps in this video and it worked. I'm not a tech guy, but it was easy to follow. Hope it works for you too!

Since I can't post URLS:

The title of the video is:

Fix corrupted project file that won't open and keeps crashing in Davinci Resolve 17

The name of the channel:

Essential video editing

Return to DaVinci Resolve
